our research is only the beginning.
From the Andes of Peru to the snow-capped peaks of Tibet, the Simonson Lab’s projects focus on migratory populations that have adapted to extreme, high-altitude climates and conditions that—for most people—are wholly unsustainable.
Through our team’s efforts to explore the genetic anomalies that define these groups, we’ve been privileged to meet fascinating, inspiring individuals along the way. Beyond data for our research, they’ve openly shared the rich histories, traditions, and stories that define them. Even in the most arid areas, there is an abundance of life that comes through the legacies passed down through generations.
It didn’t take us long to realize that there was much more to our research than patterns and statistics. Behind the charts and abstracts, there are stories waiting to be told as well—stories that bridge the gaps between scientists and laypersons, and the soaring space that separates the soil from the summits.
